ACCOMMODATION
Prospect Bay opened for business in 2004. We
have a Four Star AA grading and are an Approved Country House with Failte
Ireland, the Irish Tourist Board. As with most other Irish bed and breakfast
businesses, it is also our family home, but its’ design allows
for guests’ privacy should they desire it.

Because we live in such a beautiful and unspoilt part of the world
we try hard to be as eco-friendly as possible; both as individuals and
as accommodation providers. During 2006 we were proud to be part of
the first group in Ireland to receive the EU Eco Label for accommodation.

Eco label...
Bedrooms
All
our bedrooms are en-suite, and enjoy lake or mountain views. One of
our bedrooms also has a balcony overlooking the Fountain
Garden and Lake. It is very popular, so pre-booking is essential.
In total we can accommodate ten to twelve guests. Our rooms are flexible:
we have doubles, twins, and double/singles which can also accommodate
a fourth person or cot.
Every room has an individual colour theme, with elm-wood laminate flooring
and rugs, and many original and limited edition paintings by local artists
line the walls.
Our beds are of very high quality; our duvets cosy and warm, and our
pillows are non-allergenic. Every room has extra pillows and blankets
should you require them, and room radiators have thermostatic controls
for you to adjust.
Each
room has remote colour TV and DVD, hairdryer, a hospitality tray with
full size kettle and tubs of coffee, tea and sugar – no annoying
sachets! We provide fresh milk on request, and each room has its own
mini cooler. You’ll also notice a small recycling bin –
its part of our environmental policy.
We have a leaflet in each room of the many things you are welcome to
use or borrow: from an iron or internet access to walking guides and
a pair of wellies! A filtered water cooler in the breakfast room is
available 24 hours per day.
The en-suite bathrooms feature top quality showers. Eco-friendly soap
and shower gel is provided, and we operate an optional towel and laundry
policy.
For those who find stairs difficult we have two rooms located on the
ground floor close to our disabled access ramp, and we can provide shower
seats and toilet frames on request.
Some of our smaller guests may wish to use our travel cot, and several
rooms have both a double and single bed for family use.
Public Areas
Our
breakfast room and guests lounge faces south and offers lovely views
of the lake. French doors lead out onto a paved terrace with patio chairs
and tables – an ideal spot to enjoy a glass of wine and watch
the sun go down! Beyond the terrace is our new Fountain Garden, with
Koi pool, Gazebo and Deck area - perfect for sun bathing or for reading
a few pages of that new paperback you hadn’t yet got started on!
For
those guests needing access to Sky Sports or news we have this facility
in our Great Room, and Broadband Internet access, phone and fax facilities
are also available on request.
We have a notice board in the front hall displaying information about
local places of interest, restaurants, taxi numbers, etc.
Up
the front staircase is our Library area, and you are welcome to borrow
one of our many paperbacks.
Planet – Saving Breakfasts!
Breakfast means something different to all of us – fruit,
yogurt; a bowl of cereal, croissants or a bagel; perhaps a scrambled
egg or a Full Irish – but everyone would agree that natural is
best.
We are pleased to offer a wide selection of organic ingredients year
round such as fruit, yogurt, butter and sugar, salt, marmalade, cornflakes,
coffee and eggs. Other organic items are on offer as they become available
– for example our home grown tomatoes during the summer.
We are fortunate in Co. Cavan to have access to a wealth of locally
produced foods to offer on our breakfast menu – everything from
milk, eggs and bacon to local recipes such as wheaten soda bread and
boxty – so we deliberately source these from within our own county.
Our Ethical Food policy also ensures that our eggs are always Free
Range, all imported items such as tea, coffee and fruit juice are Fair
Trade, and there are no wasteful and annoying sachets or tubs of anything!

More and more goods are becoming available as Fair Trade, which is
as it should be, but many organic items offered in supermarkets have
had to travel hundreds of miles to reach us, creating an unnecessarily
large carbon footprint. Locally grown organic produce is still scarce,
but we are sure more will become available if we all ask for it. Farmers
Markets are becoming more common, and are a good place to find organic
produce.
